Haiti - FLASH : Prime Minister Jouthe advocates for the reopening of the International Airport

Friday during a supervisory visit to the work in progress, with a view to the next resumption of aerial activities, Prime Minister Jouthe was accompanied, among others, by Nader Joaséus, Minister of Public Works and Irving Méhu the Director General of National Airport Authority (AAN) assured that the Airport closed since March 19, cannot remain closed indefinitely saying "[...] Flights must resume in Haiti [...] The diaspora must be able to return to the country [...]"

Jouthe declared that he could not think like the scientists, but that besides the health policy he must think of the economy of Haiti and estimated that the population will have to learn to live with this coronavirus... He promised addressed the question of the reopening and resumption of international flights in the Council of Ministers with the representatives of the Tourist Association of Haiti (ATH) and other sectors concerned in order to find the best solutions for the reopening of the international airport.

Subsequently he discussed with airline officials and the Working Group composed of the Office of Civil Aviation, the AAN and the PNH around the strengthening of security and health measures relating to the reopening of the airport he wants imminent...

In addition, Marcos Espinal, Director of the Department of Communicable Diseases of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), told the Spanish news agency EFE, that Latin America and the Caribbean must wait to reopen their economy or do so in a very gradual manner to avoid further outbreaks of the pandemic.

In the case of Haiti, Marcos Espinal, said that he had drawn the attention of friendly countries to the need to create an international coalition to help it prepare for a possible humanitarian disaster.
