Haiti - Climate : Return of the nice weather this Thursday

The depression who gave of showers and thunderstorms for several days on Haiti is located west to the Jamaica this morning. It continues to move toward north-west to make room to an air mass slightly drier from Thursday. So moderate showers are planned over the country today and tomorrow, but according to some forecast models the departments of the South, of the grande-anse, of artibonite, nippes, Northwest, North and North-East will be the most likely to receive strong showers.

Faced with accumulated rainfall and soil saturation in many parts of the country, the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management and Disaster (SPGRD) maintains this Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 10am the phase of alert to the level of orange vigilance (ie impact risk of moderate to severe) to heavy rains in the National Emergency Plan face to the threats of heavy rain with risk of river flood, rockfalls, landslide, collapse and flooding on our departments including Nippes, Grande-Anse, South, West, Artibonite, North West, North and Northeast.

Last night was recorded:

  • 78mm of rain at the Airport

  • 42mm to Damien

  • 65mm to Carrefour and Duval (Croix-des-Bouquets)

  • 118mm to Pétion-Ville

  • 70mm to Fonds-Parisien.
