Haiti - Social : The expelled of camps of Delmas demanding justice 09/06/2011 13:57:02
Following the expulsion and destruction in late May, of two IDP camps, located in public places in Delmas, near the road of the international airport, hundreds of people expelled from these camps, will demonstrate tomorrow, Friday, in the streets of Port-au-Prince, to denounce the acts of Mayor of Delmas Wilson Jeudy that they describe as arbitrary. Recall that the mayor had justified these operations by explaining "...We can not give people a public square as a gift, to set up tents favorable to gang activity..."
The evicted homeless, stress that their situation has deteriorated with the rains and the start of hurricane season and that they are unable to pay rent. They demand justice and reparations under Article 22 of the Constitution which states that "The State recognizes the right of every citizen to decent housing..." In addition, they intend to file tomorrow, to the public prosecutor in Port-au-Prince, a complaint against the Mayor of Delmas Wilson Jeudy, and deliver a petition to the Parliament.
