Haiti - Football : New format for qualifiers in the Concacaf Zone
In a circular, Phillippe Maggio, the Secretary General of the Confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) informs that a new format for the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup, Qatar 2022, was adopted to compensate for the suspension of the windows of FIFA international matches for the months of March, June and September due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This new qualifying format prioritizes the integrity of football, allowing the 35 FIFA members in the zone to participate in more meaningful matches for direct access to qualifying places for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The circular specifies that the qualifications made up of 3 rounds will take place during the FIFA match windows starting in October 2020 and ending in March 2022. At the end of these qualifying rounds we will know the countries which will win the three and a half places representing Concacaf at the finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

First Round:
The first round of qualifying will be played in a group stage involving the FIFA member associations of the zone classified 6-35 according to the FIFA / Coca Cola ranking published on July 16, 2020. The 30 associations will be divided into 6 groups of 5 teams; each team will play once against all the others in its group for a total of 4 matches including two at home and two away during the FIFA match windows in October and November 2020. The 6 highest ranked countries namely El Salvador, Canada, Curaçao, Panama, Haiti, and Trinidad & Tobago are designated seeds of groups A, B, C, D, E, F and the winners of each of these 6 groups will enter the next phase.

Second Round :
All the matches of the second phase will be played during the FIFA period in March 2021 between the 6 winners of the previous round in a round-trip knockout format. The best-ranked teams at FIFA level after the first phase will have the chance to play their second leg at home. The winners of these double confrontations will go to the final round. Posters are however predefined and we will have the clashes in this order:

Winner of Group A versus Winner of Group F
Winner of Group B versus Winner of Group E
Winner of Group C versus Winner of Group D

Third Round (Final) :
The third or final round will be played with 8 selections: the three winners of the second round and the five teams ranked 1-5 according to FIFA / Ranking published on July 16 (Mexico, United States, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras). With round-trip matches, a mini-championship of 14 days (7 round trips) during the FFA windows of June, September, October and November 2021, and January and March 2022. This phase will determine the 3 best teams that qualify directly for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, while the 4th team will represent Concacaf at the FIFA international play-offs in June 2022.
