Haiti - News : Zapping... 09/08/2020 11:36:48 The Embassy of Qatar in the Dominican Republic has provided medical assistance to Haiti to help it fight the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The assistance provided by "Qatar Charity" included medical and preventive assistance. It is Yaser Awad al-Abdulla the charge d'affaires ai Qatari of the Embassy in Santo Domingo who presented the assistance of Qatar to the charge d'affaires ai of the Embassy of Haiti in the Dominican Republic, Yves Rody Jean. Towards cooperation with Howard University On Friday, Chancellor Claude Joseph discussed with the leaders of the American University (Washington) Howard University, on the possibilities of support to the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After the meeting, they agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on supporting the Academy and strengthening cooperation with universities and academics in Haiti. Cap-Haitien 350th anniversary celebrations August 15, 2020 brings back the 350 years of founding of the city of Cap-Haitien and the 200 years since the death of King Henry Christophe. From August 13 to 16, a whole series of activities (excursions, fairs, conferences-debates, festivals, exhibitions, horse rides, sea excursions, brain games, sports activities, DJ entertainment and shows and more...) are planned for the greatest pleasure of visitors, tourists and festival-goers. Most of the events will take place on Boulevard du Cap-Haïtien. The traditional dance party of the Tropicana orchestra of Haiti will take place on Saturday August 15th. Lack of sign language and braille writing technicians On August 4, Secretary of State Soinette Désir met Louis Pierre Janvier, Coordinator of the School Adaptation and Social Support Commission (CASAS). They discussed the strengthening of this structure of the Ministry of National Education responsible for teaching children with disabilities. Janvier reiterated the determination of CASAS to support schoolchildren and students with disabilities and recalled the shortcomings faced by the Commission, particularly in sign language and braille writing technicians. The Secretary of State is committed to strengthening and formalizing the collaboration between the two entities and to supporting CASAS initiatives for better educational inclusion of children with disabilities. The distribution of food kits continues As part of the implementation of the "Panye Solidarite" sub-program, part of the "Kore Pèp" National Social Assistance Program, the Economic and Social Assistance Fund, continued this week the distribution of food kits to vulnerable people. About 6,000 people in difficult situations residing in several neighborhoods of the municipalities of Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, Delmas, Tabarre and Cité Soleil have benefited from dry rations.
