Haiti - Economy : Purchase of petroleum products, 1.7 billion losses estimated over 10 years for the State

Friday, August 14, directors general of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), the Central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF) and the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) making up the Working Group in charge of to investigate the calls for tenders made between the Haitian State and the oil companies, submitted to Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe their preliminary report on the acquisitions of oil products and the estimated losses for the Haitian State related to these purchases.

According to Jouthe, this report concerns the importation of petroleum products on the Haitian market, ranging from March 2010 to March 2019 (period when the State ensured the import of petroleum products through the BMPAD) and from March 2019 to May 2020 (period of liberalization of the oil market at the request of companies). Stating that this investigation is part of "the normal logic of governance where market control is a regular activity of the authority and has nothing to do with the economic situation."

The Prime Minister thanked the members of the Group for having put so much effort into producing the report within two months, according to President Jovenel Moïse's wishes.

The Task Force assessed after investigation that the losses to the Haitian state over 10 years amounted to US $ 1.7 billion. Note that this report has not been released to the media as the Prime Minister has not yet read the report, but he promised to submit it later...
