During the swearing-in ceremony, the new President Abinader, in the presence of many personalities, elected officials and representative of the diplomatic corps, the American Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and the President of Haiti Jovenel Moïse and mentioned in his speech, the importance of relations with Haiti "The bilateral relationship with Haiti is very important for the Dominican Republic. We are aware that the success of this relationship depends on the active, consistent and persevering presence of the two States. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen the instruments for a good neighborliness, promote the comprehensive development of the border and the design of an effective security policy to help the well-being of the two Nations," without further details...

Later after the ceremony, President Jovenel Moïse was received in audience by the new President Luis Abinader. Together, they gave an overview of bilateral relations between the two countries and pledged to strengthen them.
