Monday, Claude Joseph, the Minister of Foreign Affairs went to the airport to welcome and extend a warm welcome to his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who came to Haiti as part of a 3-day tour which began on Sunday in Dominican Republic, before continuing Monday in Haiti to end this Tuesday in Venezuela.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a meeting at the National Palace with members of the Moïse-Jouthe Administration where the strengths of cooperation with Turkey were reviewed. At the end of this meeting, the two foreign ministers initialed 7 memoranda of understanding:

• Memorandum of Understanding for the formation of the political consultation mechanism between the ministries of foreign affairs;

• Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between Chancellery Diplomacy Academies;

• Memorandum of Understanding on Disaster Management;

• Memorandum of Understanding for Economic Cooperation;

• Memorandum of understanding for cultural cooperation;

• Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation on Archives;

• Memorandum of Understanding for Technical Cooperation.

Regarding cooperation at the energy level, Claude Joseph said during a joint press briefing, that it had moved forward, promising to give more details at the appropriate time...

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was also received in audience by President Jovenel Moïse "I discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the bilateral relations between the two countries and the strengthening of cooperation, especially in the field of electricity. We also discussed many issues of common interest [...]" said Jovenel Moïse on his Twitter account.

Note that the Turkish Chancellor did not come to Haiti empty-handed. He handed over 3 ventilation devices and medical equipment and supplies to help the Haitian Government in its fight against Covid-19.
