Haiti - Politic : CASEC women stigmatized and discriminated

Audain Fils Bernadel the Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities recently took part in the first talk with local elected officials. Several dozen women Councilors of Administration of Communal Sections (CASEC) were the Minister's main interlocutors alongside technicians from the Department of Territorial Communities of the Ministry

In the presence of Paul André, President of the National Federation of Casec, these women took the opportunity to inform the Minister of the main grievances of their communal sections. They also spoke of the stigmatization they face on a daily basis in their work, linked to the issue of gender, which considerably reduces their performance. They denounced being too often discriminated or even oppressed by men CASECs and the later in majority. In this sense, they plead for more equity and positive discrimination in their favor.

Minister Bernadel is delighted that these CASECs have decided to make their voice heard and is committed to working to make women more present in politics at the level of communal sections. In addition, he urged the technicians of his Ministry to guarantee the same access and offer the same attention and treatment to CASEC women, as to men CASEC, which controls more than 480 Cartel coordinator positions, against 38 for women.
