Haiti - DR : Dominican President Abinader orders to strengthen the border with Haiti

The newly elected Dominican President Luis Abinader at the end of his tour in Montecristi where he announced in particular the extension of the Port of Manzanillo, ordered the strengthening of the border due to the situation of armed violence that prevails in Haiti and in forecast of a new wave of anti-government protests in the neighboring country...

Abinader said he had already instructed Major General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, the new Minister of Defense, to send military reinforcements as a preventive measure throughout the border strip in order to ensure the integrity and Dominican territory security.

President Abinader also indicated that they are preparing a border integration plan which will be presented in the coming days.

Let's remember that around 11,000 soldiers were already deployed (before these new reinforcements) all along the border with Haiti, with high-tech equipment to ensure 24-hour surveillance (camera, drone, night vision and infrared etc...) with the support of helicopters, mobile units and special forces, to fight against illegal immigration, smuggling and transnational crimes.
