Haiti - Politic : Jovenel Moïse evokes a better life for the population

Friday, October 2, at the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), President Jovenel Moïse launched the second day of the economy which took place around the theme "Security and Investment in Haiti".

This event, which brought together several senior leaders of the public administration, as well as leading specialists in the field, was the opportunity for the Head of State to salute the work of the Government and the BRH to raise the Gourde, which kept losing value against the dollar.

In his speech, President Moïse recalled "In February 2017, when I took office as Head of State, the exchange rate was 67 gourdes per dollar. Today, this exchange rate is lower than in February 2017. We will ensure that the measures are applied in a way to continue to affect the exchange rate," adding "[...] There is a significant drop in the price of basic necessities. And the trend continues to the great benefit of the population." Stressing that this price drop that is starting is a direct consequence of the actions of the BRH explaining that "The measures we are adopting are not intended to ruin entrepreneurs, but to create a security framework favorable to investment. We hope that each citizen concerned will demonstrate self-transcendence for the benefit of collective interests. "

The Head of State also took advantage of this day to issue a warning to all merchants who have decided to engage in the black market to prevent the population from breathing," stressing "[...] the game of attack made to dismantle the Gourde isn't innocent," explaining that the attack on the Gourde lays the basis for a crushing of the State too, he urged the Minister of Commerce to do his job to allow the proper implementation of the measures.

In addition, Jovenel Moïse explained that the chaotic situation was a threat to the life and property of people but also to the economic development of the country, insisting that everyone work to create a favorable investment framework in Haiti, in order to continue the fight against poverty and put the country on the path to development.

At the start of the fiscal year, Moïse called on the Government to pursue all reforms, particularly in the field of construction, in the administration and in the organization of free, transparent and inclusive elections, warning that breaking and setting it on fire will not make it back down in its actions to offer a better life to the population.

The Head of State said he had issued instructions to the authorities of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) to bring order to the whole country, stressing to this effect that in the 2020-2021 budget an envelope of 1.6 billion gourdes had been budgeted for the PNH to buy equipment and equip the police.

In conclusion, President Moïse urged all Haitians to unite to out the country of poverty. Recalling that the political transition so demanded by the opposition is the door open to robbery, which is why he believes that good elections must be held, without violence, so that the population can choose who they want to lead and so that the process democratic process continues in Haiti.
