Haiti - Technology : Launch of a Haitian digital health and telemedicine platform

Friday, October 9 at Quisqueya University (UNIQ), during the closing ceremony of the Telemedicine week (October 5 to 9), the team of the company "LASWENYAY", in partnership with the Haitian Society of Telemedicine has officially launched their health and telemedicine platform, which will allow thousands of people to access health services remotely via a mobile application.

This digital platform aims to promote the establishment of telemedicine and the more efficient health care offer through digital tools and aims to reduce the "medical desert" observed in Haiti which has less than 6 doctors per 10,000 inhabitants. This tool is a means of offering the populations of the 10 geographical departments of the country and throughout the world remote health services via teleconsultation, tele-expertise and tele-surveillance.

Speaking at this ceremony, Alain Sauval, representative of the UNIQ, congratulated the initiators of this project implemented and administered by young people and did not hide the satisfaction of the University to be associated with such a initiative.

In his intervention, Dr Jude Jean Jacques Medical Director of LASWENYAY explained that this telemedicine platform is designed to bring improvement and accessibility to the Haitian health system.

For his part, Amos Cincir Chairman of the Board of Directors of this project believes that this new tool comes at a crucial time when the Haitian health system is "on its knees" stressing that the project has become concrete and tangible thanks to the determination of a team of visionary, dynamic, honest, responsible men and women who have a sense of responsibility [...]"

Jeeph Sergilles, CEO of LASWENYAY, said that telemedicine is a way of doing medicine remotely using connected objects (smartphones, tablets, phones...) Stressing that the creation of this platform will, among other things, improve access to health care, the quality of care, reduce serious events and improve the quality of life, among others.

Economist Énomy Germain, who spoke on the economic impact of telemedicine, highlighted the close link between the economy and health, claiming that thanks to telemedicine, households can save a good part of their health expenses.
