Haiti - Reconstruction : Quebec and France speak to pool their NGOs

Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, Quebec Minister of International Relations, visiting Paris this week, met Tuesday with Alain Juppé, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs about a grouping of NGO from Quebec and French working in Haiti in order to combine their efforts.

"Our NGOs do not talk to other NGOs. We must unite them to maximize the benefits, in the presence of Ministers of Haiti. NGOs receive more money than their ministries but they are not aware of the projects" explained Monique Gagnon-Tremblay". "It is said that there is a lack of coordination, that we are unable to coordinate our actions. The idea is to unite them, to listen them, to take stock of their work and understand what they do. For us, Haiti is a priority [...] suggested that we organize a joint mission with the aim to consolidate our NGOs."

The idea of Quebec appears to have been well received by Alain Juppé which gave a mandate to its staff to develop these ideas. Although no date has been set for this eventual mission possible, the end of the year would have been discussed.
