Haiti - PNH : 60 police instructors trained as trainers

Friday, November 13, 2020, sixty police instructors, including 5 women, successfully completed a 3-week "training of trainers" course, through a project jointly initiated by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) and the Program of the United Nations for Development (UNDP - Haiti).

This training aims to strengthen the Initial training program, in accordance with the Strategic Development Plan of the National Police of Haiti (PNH). It allowed the instructors to improve and deepen their pedagogical knowledge and to be introduced to new teaching techniques.

This group of 60 instructors will be responsible for delivering an induction program to 35 trainers newly recruited by the PNH in order to increase the number of NPS. All its instructors will then be in charge of delivering courses for new police cadets, especially those of the 31st promotion still being selected.

All of these initiatives are part of building the capacity of the NPS to provide quality basic training for future promotions of police cadets.

Recall that only 2,370 cadets joined the ranks of the police between 2017 and 2020. According to a report presented to the Security Council, on June 15, 2020 the PNH will not reach the objective of 4,000 additional officers (including 12% of women) by 2021 set in its 2017-2021 strategic development plan.
