Haiti - COVID-19 : Strengthening of measures at Toussaint Louverture International Airport

Friday, November 27, the Working Group set up by the Government for the management of Covid-19 composed of representatives of the ministries of Tourism, Haitians Living Abroad, Public Health of the National Aviation Office Civilian, Haitian National Police, National Airport Authority, as well as airline officials met at Toussaint Louverture International Airport to assess the barrier measures taken by the Haitian State to fight against the spread of Covid-19.

Emphasis was placed on efforts to strengthen the protocol and enforce barrier measures by everyone.

Louis Gonzague E. Day, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) who participated in this meeting believes that the Government must demand that the population respect the instructions of the Ministry of Health. He asks each organization working at the Airport to play its part to avoid the increase in the rate of contamination in the country during the festive period, by taking all measures to protect the Haitian population, the diaspora who will come to visit their family and all the tourists who will come to spend the end of year and New Year celebrations in Haiti.

For his part, Dr Patrick Delly, Representative of the Ministry of Public Health, said he saw a relaxation of temperature control inside the airport. According to him, this could cause a possible increase in the rate of contamination. He advises the competent authorities to take drastic measures to curb the chain of spread of Covid-19 at Toussaint Louverture Airport by requiring everyone to wear the mark without any exceptions.

The other participants in this meeting proposed strengthening the measures taken by the Government to fight against the spread of the Coronavirus, in particular: the obligation to wear masks in the streets, in public places as well as the washing of hands with soap or of a hydroalcoholic solution.
