The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has released its 2019 World Human Development Report in which Haiti is ranked 170th just behind Afghanistan out of 189 countries and territory in the "low human development" category with an index of Human Development (HDI) of 0.510 position that Haiti shares with Sudan. Note that the closer the value is to 1, the higher the country's level of development.

Haiti's HDI in 2019 is lower than the average for countries in the low human development group (0.513) and lower than the average for Latin American and Caribbean countries (0.766), which ranks

Haiti ranks last among Caribbean and Latin American countries with an average HDI of 0.766, and also bottom of the group of low human development countries with an average HDI of 0.513.
