Haiti - Politic : The PM takes stock of the end-of-year festivities and security
Monday, December 21 at a press conference the Prime Minister, Joseph Jouthe, communicated on the end and new year activities.

According to the Prime Minister, Joseph Jouthe, the end of year celebrations, between Christmas, New Year and Carnival 2021 are an important family moment and a sacred tradition. The Government therefore intends to respond positively to these legitimate popular aspirations.

Several aspects that must be taken into account within this framework well defined by the power in place were recently validated in the Council of Ministers.

The health situation still requires the vigilance of the population who must realize that Covid-19 exists on national soil. We must celebrate, while doing it in respect of barrier gestures, wearing a mask and social distancing to avoid the risk of the spread of the coronavirus.

In this sense, the Prime Minister appealed to the competent public authorities in terms of cleaning at the urban level, and also, in terms of both sports and socio-cultural activities to take over the decisions of the State and the Government on these end of year programs.

Finally, the private sector, local and regional authorities, civil society, civic action police officers, the press, sane individuals, of conscience and of heart, everyone without exclusion is invited to take part to these times of celebration, generosity, leisure, or relaxation necessary for the survival of the world in general and our world in particular.

Regarding the security situation, Jouthe recalled that the police operations which are already bearing fruit aim to combat organized crime and thwart the phenomenon of kidnapping, and thus improve the security climate.

Prime Minister Jouthe sent a clear message to the bandits who dared to cross the red line and who have no other choice today than to change their profession.

"[...] There is no question of continuing to tolerate the idea of lawless areas in our society, nor of ghettos [...] The National Commission for Disarmament, Dismantling and Reintegration for eight months has been talking incessantly to bandits. This is their mission, but it is very difficult to convince someone who earns easy money to give up their activities. This one cannot be reinserted. We cannot reintegrate bandits. There is no more time for palaver, now is the dismantling phase [...] The bandits must know that the country is ruled, we cannot challenge the authorities. The police will remain on the ground until peace and serenity reign in the country."
