Haiti - Culture : Sophia Martelly encourages the creativity of women

Madame Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, joined the organization "Women in Democracy" and the Haitian American Chamber of Commerce of Florida to inaugurate the Women in Production 2011 Trade Fair, in Miami. This approach aims to encourage the production and the work of more than 50 Haitian women involved in the creation and production.

The exhibition, which took place on June 25 and 26 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, was preceded by an opening reception hosted by the President of the University of Miami, Dr. Donna E. Shalala. Two days of exhibition and sale were held as part of this first edition abroad of "Women in Production."

The opening ceremony was marked by a tribute to five women-entrepreneurs, whose Leanna Archer, President of Leanna's Inc., one of the youngest business woman of the Haitian community of the United States; Ms Roberte Laurent, President of "Bèlzèb and Moi Spa Spiritual" who was honored by the Ambassador Luis Andrade Falla, Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States and Mrs. Murielle Leconte.

Murielle Leconte, known for over 20 years for her creations, received a special tribute from the First Lady for her contribution to the enhancement of the image of Haiti. Mrs Sophia Martelly wished to clarify to the assistance "the importance of support and encourage the talents of these women. Because their work is one of the riches of Haiti".
