Message from Jocelerme Privert :

"Haitian people

My dear compatriots.

On the eve of the 2019 end of year celebrations, as tradition dictates, millions of men and women from all over the world have exchanged vows for peace, prosperity and above all health, for the year 2020.

However, a virus of the Coronavirus strain, 'COVID-19', quickly turned the world's public health services into a nightmare and took on the scale of a planetary calamity. In the space of a few weeks, the said virus has spread across the world affecting nearly 80 million people with over 1.5 million fatalities.

The measures adopted to limit its spread have led to a recession in the world economy without the pandemic having been truly controlled. Unfortunately, developing countries, in particular the poorest, have been the most severely affected, directly or indirectly, because significant funds have had to be mobilized to protect populations and save lives, particularly suffered.

The commitment of a number of national actors and the active solidarity of friends and partners of the international community have, however, made it possible to mitigate the impact of the disease in our country. This is the opportunity to pay public tribute to all those who have come to the bedside of many infected compatriots.

Today we are at a crossroads. The management of this pandemic, as urgent and worrying as it continues to be, should in no way obscure the many challenges that await us for the year 2021.

Political stability, essential for Haiti's economic and social progress, is once again threatened by a deleterious political environment, a precarious economic and social situation, an unprecedented financial and monetary tsunami, a persistent institutional vacuum and an uncontrolled upsurge of the phenomenon of insecurity and organized crime.

Citizens of my country, political and civil society protagonists, the hour is serious and calls for sacrifices for the benefit of the common good.

The time has come for all of us to come together around the same table to find, through dialogue, the necessary compromise and prevent our country from sinking irreversibly into chaos and anarchy.

Haiti, our alma mater, demands this collective awareness and I express against us, Haitians in good faith, these sincere wishes at the end of the year !

While having a special thought for all those who, in Haiti and throughout the world, have made the great trip or have been either infected or affected by this health crisis, I address to you all, my dear compatriots, from the bottom of my heart, my best wishes and patriotic greetings for this new year.

May God keep you and Protect Haiti !"
