The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) congratulates the Government and people of the Republic of Haiti on its 217th anniversary of independence (January 1), while highlighting the impact of the country's inspiring history on the region.

"The Community joins with the People of Haiti to honour their inspiring history which has been a guiding light for the Region and further afield, and to celebrate this auspicious occasion with them," said Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary General of CARICOM in his message of congratulations to President Jovenel Moïse.

"Excellency, in extending our best wishes on this anniversary, it is hoped that the rich history and symbolism it represents will continue to be a source of national unity and pride for all Haitians," said the Secretary General.
