Haiti - Education : Almost 1,600 teachers receive financial support of 30,000 Gourdes

As part of its Covid-19 response plan, nearly 1,600 teachers targeted throughout the national territory received assistance of 30,000 gourdes from the Ministry of National Education

Executives from the central office of the Ministry, delegates in the field, together with representatives of the Departmental Directorates of Education proceeded to deliver of checks to those concerned, on December 29 and 30, following very strict administrative procedures.

This action is part of the actions of the State, which intends to support teachers in the network of public schools with a letter of appointment or a contract in due form which has not yet entered the budget of the State. This one-off aid of 30,000 Gourdes aims to enable these teachers to get through the difficult socio-economic situation.

The Ministry specifies that the lists of teachers were submitted by the DDEs to the Human Resources Department, according to the required criteria. Control and cleaning work was then carried out to avoid duplication and other non-compliant cases.

The beneficiary teachers welcomed this support from the state, with the help of donors, during this difficult end-of-year period marked by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Caribbean Development Bank (BCD) responded positively to the Ministry's request for teachers by respectively granting an amount of US $1 million.
