Haiti - Politic : Haiti and the DR discuss trade and migration

Friday at the Royal Oasis hotel, at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Technical Secretariat of the Mixed Bilateral Commission (CMB) organized a round table on the theme "Migration and trade at the heart of Haitian-Dominican relations : analyzes, challenges and perspectives" chaired by Mrs. Marie André Amy, responsible a.i of the Technical Secretariat of the Haitian-Dominican Joint Commission, which brought together state actors and members of civil society from the two nations of the island.

The objective of this dialogue table was, based on the recommendations of various studies selected on migration and trade between Haiti and the Dominican Republic carried out by several institutions, to identify solutions and develop a framework document "This approach constitutes a attempt to appropriate a set of studies carried out sparingly on the issue in order to produce recommendations that will guide our actions," Chancellor Jospeh said.

He stressed that if migration and trade have always been sources of friction in bilateral relations, it is because these two issues are the ones that most marked the disparities between the two countries.

In addition, he indicated that the priority issues for Haiti in the current bilateral agenda are : the regularization of the status of Haitian students and workers, the guarantee and protection of the integrity of the respective territories, cooperation in health matters., the development of borders and the rebalancing of trade, including access for Haitian products to the Dominican market.

Chancellor Jospeh also took the opportunity to stress that "relations with the Dominican Republic continue to be at the forefront of the priorities of Haiti's foreign policy".
