Haiti - Social : Sophia Martelly on tour in the Nippes

Mrs Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, made a tour, Friday July 1st, 2011, in the Nippes, in order to be aware of the current situation in this department during the rainy season.

It was also an opportunity, for the First Lady, to proceed with laying of the first stone of the Emergency Operations Center National (COUN) of Fond des Nègres. This structure will help the Departmental Committee of Risk Management and to the Communal Committee of Civil Protection to cope in an effective and coordinated manner to the critical situations.

Young, who recently received training in risk management have received their certificate from the hand of the First Lady, who wanted to highlight the importance of lifeguards and of the solidarity in the management of serious situations.

In an effort to support the efforts of the President of the Republic and to better understand the current school structure in rural areas, Sophia Martelly, visited a school of 553 students. This visit has strengthened her conviction for a standardized education at the national level, to address the inequalities that are a handicap to sustainable development.

She also, in a spirit of solidarity, visited the Cholera Treatment Centre (CTC) of Fonds des Nègres.

On the way back, the First Lady took the opportunity to visit the Asylum of St. Vincent de Paul of Léogâne where are accommodated senior citizens and disabled children. "Any project of society must pay special attention to those people who are, alongside the children, the more vulnerable fringe of the society," she declared.
