Haiti - FLASH : Police officers engage in acts of banditry

Léon Charles, Director General a.i. of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) notes that a "small group of police officers are engaged in acts of banditry that tarnish the image of the Institution. He mentions several cases in a press note dated February 3 "[...] Three police offciers and one ex-police offcier were surprised in Miragoâne in support of a political movement in a vehicle without a license plate with heavy weapons that they dared to point at other police officers who were trying to intercept them in Petit-Goâve.

At least two other police officers used their weapons to create panic in a carnival course in the Champs de Mars.

These drifts move away from police principles and are similar to politico-criminal practices [...]"

Léon Charles reminds these police officers and others who would be tempted to follow these examples that "the High Command does not tolerate that within it, groups are marginalized to impose their laws on the institution and on the population by the violence.

Consequently, it will crack down with the greatest rigor against these groups which thinks they can destabilize the police institution [...]"
