Haiti - FLASH : Tips to reduce the risk of being kidnapped

The Alliance for Risk Management and Business Continuity (AGERCA) recalls that in recent months acts of insecurity have multiplied throughout the national territory with a concentration in highly urbanized areas, notably with acts of kidnapping followed by ransom demand.

According to the organization Action Internationale pour les Droits de l'Homme (AIDH) in its annual report, nearly 1,200 men, women and children were victims of kidnappings in Haiti in 2020 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-32897-haiti-insecurity-1-200-kinappings-480-gunshot-dead-in-2020.html

By putting into practice practical tips to share with loved ones you can reduce the risk of being among the victims of a kidnapping.

AGERCA shares with you some safety tips :

  • Go out only in case of great need;

  • Monitor and control all actions and actions in your immediate environment;

  • Avoid being distracted with your phone or other things in the middle of the street;

  • Limit your travel when it is dark, except in extreme emergencies;

  • Avoid high risk areas and low traffic areas;

  • Expose your personal life less on social networks;

  • Close all the doors of your house at night;

  • Stay as much as possible under all circumstances: careful and vigilant.
