Haiti - FLASH : President Abinader announces the construction of a double fence at the border

On Saturday February 27, 2021, Dominican President Luis Abinader announced during his speech on the occasion of the 177th anniversary of the country's independence that in the second half of 2021, the construction of a double fence on the line will begin at the border separating the Dominican Republic and Haiti in order to protect sovereignty and territorial security.

He said that with this fence, the cost of which is unknown at the moment, "Within two years, we want to end the serious problems of illegal immigration, drug trafficking and the trafficking of stolen vehicles at destination. and from the neighboring country."
