Haiti - Security : Creation of an anti-kidnapping cell
Jovenel Moïse was yesterday Monday at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) to chair a crucial meeting of the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN).

Important subjects were discussed, among others, the general security conditions in the country.

"In view of the increase in insecurity and remote-controlled kidnapping, the highest authorities of the State sent, this [Monday] morning, to the MJSP, a strong signal to remind the population that they are in the process of do everything possible to put the bandits out of harm's way," said Rockefeller Vincent.

"The Central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF), the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) will control suspicious financial transactions with regard to the legal tools in order to detect possible cases of financing of violence in Haiti, in particular kidnapping," announced Jovenel Moïse, announcing the creation of an anti-kidnapping cell in support of that of the DCPJ to better combat this scourge. "It was decided to create an anti-kidnapping cell which will operate under the authority of the DG of the PNH [Léon Charles]."

Also he specifies that "Clear instructions have been passed to the Ministries of Finance and Justice with a view to mobilizing the competent technical services of the State to trace the use of funds from the kidnapping [...] Insecurity has changed scale and is knocking on all doors in our territory. Now is the time to act. The security forces must get in motion to combat these deadly and devastating phenomena of kidnapping, organized crime and banditry."

For his part, the Prime Minister asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs to speak with the American authorities on shipments of arms and ammunition coming from the United States.

Also Jovenel Moïse asked the Minister of Justice and Public Security to create a hotline against kidnapping that can receive up to 250 calls per hour.
