Haiti - Politic : Vietnam calls on the parties to prepare well for the elections

During a videoconference meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Haiti, Minister Counselor Nguyen Phuong Tra, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Mission to the United Nations, asked stakeholders in Haiti to prepare for the elections to be fair and transparent.

"Vietnam calls on the international community, including the countries of the region, to continue supporting the political process in Haiti and to help Haitians resolve the current difficulties," said Phuong Tra.

The Vietnamese representative welcomed the implementation by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) of measures to support local populations in recent times, and suggested that BINUH and the United Nations Working Group seek concrete solutions to urgent matters, in particular those related to the elections and the security of the inhabitants.

As planned, the Haitian Government will hold a referendum on constitutional reform next June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-33094-haiti-flash-the-referendum-postponed-by-2-months-official.html ( initially planned for April) next April and the organization of the elections in September.

UN member countries condemned acts of violence, attacks and kidnappings against civilians, especially women and children, and called on the Government and political parties to engage in dialogue to reach consensus on the next elections.
