Haiti - FLASH : Mobile offices to provide CIN to Haitians in DR

Louis Gonzague Edner Day, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) began a tour of the Dominican Republic until March 10 to promote an official documentation campaign for Haitians residing in the Dominican Republic.

On Tuesday, Minister Day held a first working meeting with the Ambassador of Haiti in Santo-Domingo Smith Augustín, as well as with leaders of the Haitian community, to whom he asked to work intensively, so that citizens Haitians who do not have or who have lost their National Identity Card (CIN) can obtain one for free without going to Haiti.

"On instruction from the Haitian Government, we are in the Dominican Republic to meet with the authorities, local Haitian leaders, organizations that work with Haitian migrant populations to inform them of the documentation plan. We want all our compatriots to have their documents up to date, so that they can carry out their legal activities without problem wherever they live, work or study," declared the Minister.

During his stay on Dominican soil, Day will meet with each of the accredited Haitian consuls and participate in meetings with representatives of the diaspora to encourage them to actively participate in the documentation campaign.

For his part, Ambassador Augustin, indicated that they are in the process of setting up mobile and fixed offices where Haitians can go to change their identity card or obtain it for the first time, as in Headquarters of the Haitian Embassy located rue Juan Sánchez Ramírez No 33, University Zone. He said the locations where the mobile offices will be located in Santo Domingo, Barahona, Santiago, Higuey, Dajabón and other provinces where there is a strong Haitian presence will be specified in the coming days.
