Haiti - Humanitarian : Haiti launches an appeal for $235.6M
On Monday, the Haitian Government and the humanitarian community launched an appeal for the mobilization of 235.6 million dollars in 2021 to meet the humanitarian needs of 1.5 million people through the Humanitarian Response Plan 2021-2022.

The development of this plan is the result of close collaboration between humanitarian partners and their government counterparts and covers the main humanitarian sectors in Haiti. It represents the guiding tool for humanitarian action in Haiti for the next two years and serves as a reference for donors wishing to support its implementation.

The strategic axes of the response consist of supporting the most vulnerable populations in the areas of food insecurity, consolidating the resilience of households and communities face the shocks and restoring productive assets. Likewise, the plan aims to guarantee emergency access to water, sanitation and hygiene as well as emergency health services; to support access to education for the most disadvantaged children; prevent the risks associated with different types of violence and abuse; to strengthen accountability to affected populations and, finally, to better prepare for shocks.

The 2021-2022 response plan also aims to facilitate collaboration between development, humanitarian and peacebuilding actors and the resilience of communities and national institutions in the face of recurrent shocks and natural threats.

The Minister of Planning and External Cooperation reiterates the need to adapt projects to the needs of the country so that the responses provided best meet the government's priorities "We are subject to an obligation of results. We will achieve this if we agree to continue our work as a team and tackle the root cause of the crisis."

For his part, Mr. Bruno Lemarquis, Humanitarian Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, recalled that most humanitarian needs are chronic and called for addressing development deficits through reforms, investments and a sustained long-term commitment.

"Today, through this Plan, humanitarian actors renew their commitment to work to save lives, alleviate suffering and preserve the dignity of the most vulnerable households and to strengthen their resilience. At the same time, and in all coherence, it is essential to also renew our commitment in favor of structuring development actions to reduce the vulnerabilities and risks that populations face," he stressed.
