Haiti - FLASH : Towards a VISA for more than 2,800 university students in DR ?
On Wednesday in Santo Domingo, the Ambassador of Haiti in the Dominican Republic Smith Augustin chaired an important working meeting with the Vice-Minister of Consular and Migration Affairs of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jatzel Román, accompanied by Luis Pérez Cabrera, Director of relations with Haiti, as well as Ricardo Despradel and Pedro Peralta of the General Directorate of Migration as well as with representatives of various Haitian student associations, around the steps to grant a visa to more than 2,800 Haitian university students studying in the country.

Discussions focused on the fact that Haitian students do not have a permanent visa until the end of their studies in the country and that they are victims of detention by immigration officials, among other vicissitudes, when they don't have a student visa.

Dominican officials said that in the coming days, the Chancellery and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, will issue a joint resolution on the subject of the student visa. In addition, it was agreed that the Student Associations will update the official list of Haitian students concerned, which will be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via the Embassy of Haiti.
