Haiti - Elections : More than 100 political parties ready to participate in the elections in Haiti

Mathias Pierre, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, in charge of electoral issues and relations with political parties revealed that so far around a hundred officially recognized political parties, or 40% of the 253 parties existing in Haiti had working meetings with officials in the electoral process and expressed their readiness to participate in the elections, despite growing socio-political tensions.

He stressed that the elections are not an option in a democracy but an obligation and insisted on the need for a dialogue between all the stakeholders to achieve stability in Haiti.

Concerning insecurity Mathias Pierre declared that in addition to the measures already in force including the temporary ban on tinted windows in vehicles, declaration of a state of emergency in vulnerable neighborhoods under the influence of armed gangs, creations anti-kidnapping units; the authorities had set up an electoral security unit made up of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H), whose mission is to plan everything related to the climate of peace during elections, as well as logistics.
