Haiti - Politic : The Core Group deeply concerned 27/04/2021 07:20:13
The Core Group calls for 2021 to be a year of democratic renewal in Haiti with the holding of free, fair, transparent and credible elections. It therefore recalls that the responsibility for organizing the overdue electoral process rests primarily with the national authorities who must deal with the essential questions of security, transparency and logistics. The Core Group urges all stakeholders to show good faith and redouble their efforts to find a political agreement that will facilitate the holding of such elections as soon as possible. He encourages all actors to put their differences aside in order to find without delay a common solution to the current crisis, in particular the insecurity which weighs very heavily on the daily life of Haitians. As for the change of Constitution, the Core Group expresses its concern that this process is not at this stage sufficiently inclusive, participatory or transparent. Such a reform should take place on the basis of a broad consultation that involves all of the nation’s vital force.
