Haiti - FLASH : Shipwreck between Carriès and La Gonâve, 2 dead, 8 survivors, 9 missing...

Saturday, May 15, 2021 in the evening, the boat "Étoile Brillante" which had left Carriès the day before at 4.30am for the Ile de la Gonâves, had still not arrived on the island. Several dozen people on the quay waited impatiently and anxiously for the arrival of the boat with its 17 passengers and 2 crew members.

During this time several boats took to the sea in search of the "Étoile Brillante".

For its part, the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) clarified "this incident mobilized all the teams working in maritime rescue since last night : Maritime and Navigation Service of Haiti (SEMANAH), the National Police of Haiti, with the Red Cross, the National Office of Civil Aviation and the US Coast Guard are continuing their research."

Sunday at the end of the morning Erick Prévost Junior, the Director of SEMANAH informed that the "Étoile Brillante" had been officially reported missing and had quickly sunk, communicating a provisional assessment "At present, the situation is 8 survivors and 2 dead. The search continues to try to find the 9 other passengers still missing.
