The NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has inaugurated this week, a hospital to Drouillard-Sarthe (outskirts of Cité Soleil), for victims of trauma and emergencies.

Built on a site of 4.5 hectares, [land ceded by the Haitian government], this hospital of 185 beds benefits from the latest improvements and of four operating rooms. The total project cost is estimated at about USD$4 million.

The hospital will operate 24 hours 24 and offer free care to victims and the public. The hospital employs about 500 people, 95% are of Haitian origin.

"This is a very sophisticated hospital that will provide health care for free" declared Dr. Alex Larsen, outgoing Minister of Health and Population (MSPP) who attended the inauguration. The Minister thanked MSF on behalf of the Government and the Haitian people for this achievement.
