Haiti - COVID-19 : The Ministry of Health authorizes the private sector to import vaccines

While Haiti is one of the few countries in the world that has not yet started to vaccinate its population and is awaiting a first batch of vaccine donated via the COVAX mechanism, Dr. Marie Gréta Roy Clément, the Minister of Public Health has decided to authorize the private sector to import vaccines against Covid.

In a notice dated June 23, the Ministry explains the expedited procedure and the required conditions:

"The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) informs regularly registered importers/distributors of pharmaceutical products and to all health professionals that it is now possible to obtain an authorization in order to to import stocks of vaccines to allow those who so wish to access anti-Covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible. In this perspective, an accelerated procedure for processing import permit applications has been set up.

The following documents must accompany the request to be submitted to the MSPP :

  • The list of vaccines to be imported including their composition, presentation, quantity, batch number, expiration date and origin (laboratories, country);

  • A certified copy of the Emergency Use Authorization for vaccines issued by the country of origin;

  • The original of the certificate of analysis per product and per batch;

  • Information on the composition of the medical team in charge of immunization activities as well as the implementation schedule;

  • The vaccination plan including information on the equipment available for maintaining the cold chain, post-vaccination surveillance, the strategy for detecting and managing side effects, the personnel targeted by age group and by comorbidity.

The MSPP reserves the right to supervise the vaccination sites and to close them if the rules of safety of the personnel and the population are not respected.

The Ministry of Public Health thanks the institutions that want to support the MSPP in this vast fight against Covid-19 and counts on the collaboration of the importers concerned for the strict observance of these provisions."
