Haiti - COVID : The Ministry takes stock of the vaccination campaign
On Wednesday, Dr. Laure Adrien, Director General of the Ministry of Public Health, provided an update on the progress of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Haiti.

As of August 10, 2021, 16,597 doses of "Spikevax" vaccine (official name since June 21, 2021) from the MODERNA Laboratory have been injected in total in Haiti since July 16, 2021, date of the first injection https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34253-haiti-covid-first-injections-of-vaccines.html according to the latest information available dated August 10, 2021.

Dr, Adrien invited the entire population to go to one of the 37 health centers and hospitals that have the vaccine available so that they can be vaccinated List of centers: https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-34462-icihaiti-covid-list-of-37-vaccination-centers-opened-by-department.html

Note that as of August 5, 2021, the total of the 3rd wave of Covid (beginning of May 10, 2021) amounts to 7,202 confirmed cases and 305 deaths.

In addition, he said that a vaccination card is available for each person who is vaccinated. This card contains the person's personal information, registration number, vaccine type and vaccine number and the date of the next dose.

He recalled that vaccination has been underway across the country since July 16, 2021 and that the Ministry currently has a first batch of 500,000 doses of vaccines donated by the US Government as part of the fight against COVID-19. and its variants https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34237-haiti-covid-500-000-vaccines-in-haiti-75-of-haitians-do-not-want-to-be-vaccinated.html

Note that despite the vaccine being stored in the cold conditions required by the laboratory, these vaccine doses will expire in November 2021,

Dr. Adrien had recently estimated that "according to an analysis produced within the ministry, we must have between 50 and 100 vaccination sites functioning in the country to use the 500,000 doses of vaccines within the deadline. Each site will have to operate for 5 to 6 days and vaccinate an average of 50 to 100 people per day."

Based on the initial figures for the first 25 days of the vaccination campaign and taking into account the gradual opening of the centers, the vaccination rate remains well below estimates. It should be remembered that 76% of the Haitian population declares that they would refuse to be vaccinated if the vaccine against the Covid-19 was available in Haiti according to the survey of "Safitek Research" carried out between April 5 and April 19, 2021 Download the survey from "Safitek Research" : https://www.haitilibre.com/docs/Safitek-COVID-19-2021-EN.pdf
