Haiti - Security : 100 police officers of the UDMO in training

The United Nations police continued to support the National Police of Haiti in the strengthening of its operational capacity. Currently, the Departmental Unit for the Maintenance of Order (UDMO) receive a training which is part of the first training module to the techniques of interpellation and intervention techniques.

One of the kingly missions of the UDMO, is the interpellation of dangerous individuals as part of the execution of mandates of justice and the assistance to the Judicial Police, alongside the traditional missions for the maintenance of order and the general public safety missions.

Initially this training concerns the police officers of the Gonaïves and Les Cayes in the materialization of the plan of reform of the national police with the aim to create in the latter several sections of intervention.

In this first module, it is planned to train 100 police officers in five areas of intervention namely: UDMO Miragoane, with the intervention area up to Jacmel, UDMO Cap Haïtien covering the area of ​​Fort Liberté, the UDMO Les Cayes will intervene up to Jérémie, the area of ​​St Marc and Port de Paix will be covered by the UDMO of the Gonaïves, finally the UDMO of the city of Hinche will cover the whole department of the center.

France has provided funding to the tune of 50,000 Euros and wants in the next two months, and intends in the next two months, give to the National Police the necessary equipment, including ballistic shields and helmets as well as ballistic vests.

The second module of this training will begin on August 22.
