Message from Pope Francis

Sunday August 15, 2021 at the end of the Angelus prayer on this Solemnity of the Assumption, Pope Francis declared "In recent hours, a strong earthquake has occurred in Haiti, causing many deaths and injuries and significant material damage. I want to express my closeness to these dear people who were hit hard by the earthquake. While raising my prayers to the Lord for the victims, I offer my words of encouragement to the survivors, in the hope that the international community will show them a shared interest and that the solidarity of all can mitigate the consequences of the tragedy."

The "Les Anglais" cathedral destroyed

The Cathedral of the Municipality of "Les Anglais" is destroyed. It had been built at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1907. 18 people who attended a baptism have died.

Sunrise Airways : Humanitarian flights

Faced with the disaster hitting the great South, the Haitian company Sunrise Airways is doing everything to support and accompany relief efforts and donations through humanitarian flights to Les Cayes and Jérémie.

27 tonnes of aid from DR

Colombia : 18 tonnes of aid

On Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Management Unit announced that Colombia will send 18 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Haiti, 6,000 mosquito nets, 300 tents with a capacity of 4 people, 200 tents with a capacity of 6 people and 280 biosecurity kits."

1,300 victims in Dominican hospitals

More than 1,300 victims of the August 14 earthquake are treated in hospitals in the Dominican Republic, such as the one in the border town of Jimani "The pace has decreased, but we continue to operate around 40 wounded per day" said the surgeon orthopedist, Jose Gil.

The archdiocese of Les Cayes destroyed

The Japanese tennis star, #2 in the world, Naomi Osaka, proud of her Haitian origins by her father, following the deadly earthquake that hit southern Haiti said "It really hurts me to see all the devastation in Haiti [...] I am about to participate in the Cincinnati tournament this week and I will donate all my financial gains to the aid efforts in Haiti. I know the blood of our ancestors is strong, we will move forward."
