Haiti - Earthquake : $32M additional from the USA to support the victims of the earthquake and reconstruction
Thursday the Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry went to the diplomatic lounge of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport to welcome Ms. Samantha Power Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

In a joint press conference attended by US Ambassador to Haiti Michele Sison, Jerry Chandler, Director of Civil Defense (DPC) and Admiral Farrel of US Army Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), Premier Minister, Ariel Henry, declared "I welcome the visit of Ms. Power which is part of the immediate responses to be provided to affected populations and emergency operations of the US government through USAID" specifying that with the USAID administrator they will discuss the assessment of the post-earthquake situation, the synergy and coordination of emergency responses, humanitarian aid, the Emergency Alert program and the Plan the government's socio-economic recovery strategy for the devastated southern peninsula.

In her intervention Ms. Power announced an allocation of an additional 32 million US dollars for the people of the Southern Peninsula. "These 32 million dollars will provide additional shelter, health care, food, water and other assistance to save lives [...]"

Prime Minister ai Henry, grateful to the United States and other partners, clarified that "the $32 million announced will not be entrusted to the Government [...] The Government will ensure with its partners that aid arrives. in the communal sections, to the people who are most in need" stressing that these funds will also be used for the reconstruction of health and school infrastructures damaged and/or destroyed in the 3 affected departments.
