Haiti - Spain : Mandatory transit visa for Haitians, the Spanish Embassy in Haiti explains

Following the announcement of the obligation for Haitians, from September 1, 2021, to hold a transit visa to make stops in Spain https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34583-haiti-news-zapping.html the Embassy of Spain in Haiti believes it necessary to specify :

"First of all, we would like to reaffirm that relations between Spain and Haiti are excellent at all levels https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34561-haiti-earthquake-arrival-of-spanish-humanitarian-aid.html [...]

It was not the Spanish Embassy in Haiti that willingly and unilaterally introduced the concept of transit visa, but this visa (which is also required by France and other countries) is the result of an assessment made by our Secretary of State for Security on the basis of an increase in unfounded asylum requests from Haitian nationals who were supposed to be in transit at our airports. So far, the number of such requests has almost tripled in 2021 compared to 2019.

The resolutions of the European Parliament have nothing to do with an internal matter such as the transit visa, which Spain requires from several States and not only from Haiti, but also from other countries with which the Spain maintains strong ties of friendship [...]

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain in Haiti will continue to make appointments to interested persons and analyze each file with the aim of granting transit visas to persons who meet the legal conditions.

[...] We would appreciate your understanding and patience in the face of the growing number of requests we receive."

Note that this decision appears on the website of the Embassy of Spain in Haiti : https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/PUERTOPRINCIPE/fr/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Pages/VisadosDeTransitoAeroportuario.aspx
