Haiti - Economy : The IMF approves a 4th debt relief for poor countries, including Haiti

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a fourth payment relief of the debt service of $ 124 million in total for 24 poor countries, including Haiti after the April 2020, October 2020 and April 2021 reliefs.

This support is provided through the Disaster Relief and Containment Trust Fund (FFACC), which enables the IMF to provide grants to the poorest and most vulnerable countries affected by natural disaster or public health crisis.

"This debt service relief helps free scarce financial resources for vital health, social and economic support to mitigate the impact of the covid-19 pandemic," IMF said

The current cycle covers payments due until January 10, 2022, and the IMF has noted that depending on its resources, it could extend relief until April 13, 2022.

If this were the case, the accumulated debt service relief would be approximately $973 million over the entire two-year period.
