Haiti - Exodus : 8 irregular migrants out of 10 in Mexico are from Haiti

Andrés Ramírez, the Head of the Mexican Commission for Assistance to Refugees (COMAR) revealed that 8 out of 10 irregular migrants seeking refuge in Mexico are from Haiti, and for the first time in 2021, the number of Haitians will exceed that of the Hondurans in October explaining "At the end of September, since the beginning of the year we had 31,894 Honduran asylum seekers and 26,007 Haitians, but at the end of October, we will have more Haitians, because during the first 15 days of October, we have already had more than 6,000 requests from additional Haitians against less than 1,000 from Honduras."

He clarified that despite the pressure exerted by foreigners in an irregular migratory situation during the caravans to Mexico City this did not affect the functioning of the agency, even if the migrants are stationed in the installations and organize demonstrations, because one of the problems is that the response time is not fast enough for their request, delays are still affected by the pandemic, in addition to having a backlog of requests accumulated since 2020...
