Haiti - Politic : Me Bernard Gousse denies having wanted to desist

For weeks, rumors affirmed that the former-Prime Minister-designate, Me Bernard Gousse, had expressed his intention to desist before the end of the ratification process. After the rejection by the Senate, of his candidacy Tuesday evening, Bernard Gousse has publicly, Wednesday, made a formal denial of this false information :

"...I take this opportunity to bring the most formal denial to the assertion of a Senator, that I have promised to desist. Firstly, the Senator in question [Jean-Charles Moïse - Nord], was not present at this meeting [...] so he relates there, a fact which he did not witness, and this fact itself, never existed. I never promised that I will desist for several reasons :

Firstly, I did not applied, myself, to be candidate for the office of Prime Minister, I was designated by the President of the Republic. Such a process can be terminated in two ways either by the withdrawal of the presidential choice, or as it did yesterday [Tuesday] by a negative vote to the Senate [...].

Secondly, to desist would have been betraying the steps, the confidence of the Head of State, the support received from the people who manifested spontaneously and massively on all the radios to say that we need to put an end, not only to the insecurity, but we must also put an and to the arrogant incompetence, that it is necessary to put an end to the nepotism, to the indignity and it is necessary to put an end to the "ravalement" of our state before the foreign powers..."
