Haiti - Environment : What will Haiti do at COP26?
The 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) officially opened Sunday, October 31, 2021, in Glasgow, Scotland in the presence of several thousand delegates from 197 Parties signatories of the Convention, including Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35134-haiti-news-zapping.html

COP26 will be an opportunity to demonstrate, on the one hand, the urgency and opportunities of a zero carbon economy, and on the other hand, to continue the actions taken to achieve the objectives defined in the Paris Agreement.

Under the leadership of the Ministry of the Environment, Haiti is participating in this COP to defend the country's position and present the progress made at the national level in the context of the fight against climate change, in particular : the development of the national policy of fight against climate change (PNCC), development of the National Adaptation Plan (PNA) and a communication strategy, the development of the communication document on adaptation, revision of the Nationally Determined Contribution (CDN) and the National Adaptation Action Plan (PANA), the definition of the "Measure, Reporting and Verification," (MRV) system for the target sectors of the CDN, etc...

Alongside other Developing Countries and Island States (G77 Groups and China, Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the "Alliance of Small Island States" (AOSIS), Haiti will be a stakeholder not only in the discussions but also in the position of these groups in negotiations, including long-term finance, adaptation, and loss and damage.

On November 9, 2021, the Government of Haiti, through the Ministry of the Environment, will hold a side event to present Haiti's contribution in the fight against climate change and communicate information on the NAP process, communication on the adaptation, among others. In addition, strategic instruments developed by the country in the fight against climate change as well as communication and visibility tools (Lectures, Brochures, Flyers, Posters, Banners, video-documentaries, etc...) will be distributed during this event. It will also be an opportunity to renew the country's needs in terms of climate action to be implemented, to identify new funding and capacity building channels and opportunities for partnership development.

Note that Haiti's participation in COP26 reflects the involvement of civil society and the commitment of many technical and financial partners such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP), the European Union the World Bank, the World Food Program (SAP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Taiwan, "National Adaptation Plan" (NAP Global) and "Women's Environment & Development Organization" (WEDO) with the Haitian Government in the fight against climate change.
