Haiti - Politic : 10 countries in Central America and the Caribbean urge the United States to support Haiti

Friday, November 26, 2021, during the XXV extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Forum of Presidents of the Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL), held in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, the participating countries urged the United States to include Haiti in the "Alliance for Central America" plan which aims to stop the "serious crisis" socio-economic and political in Haiti.

During the closing ceremony, the 10 Speakers of FOPREL member parliaments (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, México, Panamá, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic) issued a resolution urging the United States to collaborate to face insecurity as well as education and health problems in Haiti.

In addition, during the last Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government (Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Salvador, Uruguay, Venezuela and of which Haiti has been an observer member since 2012), Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez urged Ibero-American foreign ministers to once again launch a call to the international community for a dialogue on the crisis affecting Haiti, so that free and inclusive elections result.

He also insisted on the need to get involved in the search for a solution to the instability suffered by Haiti and specified that the Dominican proposal is to promote a dialogue that will lead to the holding of elections in Haiti.
