On Saturday afternoon, December 4, 2021, in Bois-Verna the dental surgeon, Makindi Guerrier and his wife have been the victims of an attempted kidnapping by armed individuals. While resisting and defeating the kidnappers' attempt, Dr. Makindi Guerrier was hit by two bullets, one in the shoulder and the other in the 7th cervical vertebra. According to our information, he would be currently paralyzed in all 4 limbs and must be rushed to the United States for a delicate surgery.

Reacting to this attack, the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti denounces and condemns with the utmost rigor this umpteenth odious act committed against a member of the university community. In addition, it calls on the university community and the general public to show their solidarity in favor of Dr. Guerrier so that he can find the necessary economic means to allow him to travel to the United States in order to receive the care required by his health status.

Odilet Lespérance, a colleague of Dr. Guerrier, launched a fundraiser to save the life of Dr. Guerrier "The intervention that his case requires cannot be carried out in Haiti. We must urgently find an ambulance plane to transport him abroad. We are already in contact with a hospital in the United States that is ready to do the procedure. We need US $20,000 for the ambulance plane and US$ 200,000 to pay for the intervention."
