Haiti - FLASH : Annual inflation 24.6%, increase of 9.3% over 2 months
The General Consumer Price Index (CPI, 100 in 2017-2018) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34906-haiti-economy-acceleration-of-the-rise-in-prices-for-2-months.html went from 188.7 in October 2021 to 197.5 in November. This resulted in a monthly increase of + 4.7% in November compared to + 4.6% in October https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35409-haiti-flash-inflation-explodes-+46-in-one-month.html and 24.6% year-on-year against 19.7% the previous month (latest data available). This year-on-year acceleration is explained, in part, by the pronounced rise in the prices of imported products.

The monthly increase observed in September 2021 is mainly the result of the behavior of the following consumption indices:

"Food products and non-alcoholic drinks": + 5.9% over one month and 29.5% over one year;
"Articles of clothing and footwear": + 4.0% over one month and 24.5% over one year;
"Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance" (+ 4.3% over one month and 25.5% over one year;
"Health": + 1.8% over one month and 25.8% over one year.

Products with more pronounced annual inflation :

Food:
Rice (on average 44.9%), meat (on average 28.8%), powdered milk (31.3%), edible oil (58.9%), lemon (31.0%), banana (32.5%), peas (on average 24.4 %) and sugar (30.2%).

Articles of clothing and footwear:
Dress (on average 33.1%), shirt (24.9%), men's pants (25.8%), shoes and sneakers (34.1%) and sandals (26.1%).

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance:
Dining room (on average 48.8%), bed (47.9%) and mattress (41.1%)

Health:
Medicines (on average 33.5%) and glasses with corrective lenses (24.1%).

It should be noted that a greater price increase was observed for imported products, ie 32.3% year-on-year against 20.4% for local products.

  • Leisure: month + 1.3%, year + 14.6%
  • Education: month 0.5%, year + 9.7%
  • Restaurants: month 4.4%, year + 29.7%
  • Miscellaneous goods and services: month + 4.1%, year + 24.9%

Local Products CPI: 2020 November 20.1%; December 19.1%; 2021 January 18.5%; February 17.3%; March 16.9%; April 15.7; June 11.8%; July 10.8%; August 9.3%; September 10.9%; October 16.2%; November 20.4%

CPI of imported products: 2020 November 20.0%; December 19.3%; 2021 January 19.0%; February 18.3%; March 17.5%; April 16.5%; June 14.2%; July 14.9; August 13.8%; September 17.1%; October 26.1; November 32.3%

CPI by geographic region (Septemre 2021) :

All the regions therefore contributed to the increase in inflation for the month of November 2021 for the country as a whole. It should be noted, however, that the most significant regional variations compared to October 2021 are observed for the Rest West and the South, which posted 26.0% and 26.3% respectively.

Metropolitan area : year 23.9%
(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West : year 26.0%
(Departments of the Southeast and the West without the metropolitan area);

North : year + 23.6%
(Department of North, North East and North West);

South : year + 26.3%
(Department of South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Transversal : year + 24.1%
(Department of Center and Artibonite).
