Haiti - Insecurity : New measures of the PNH against fake police

In a note, Frantz Elbé, the Acting Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) brings to the attention of the population "[...] that a group of heavily armed individuals, posing as members of specialized units of the PNH, persist in committing criminal acts on the public highway and in certain businesses", specifying that these individuals are very aggressive and frequently hooded, dressed in combat uniforms bearing the mention "Police" and use vehicles without license plates, registration or with altered plates.

While the relevant units of the PNH are working to identify and seek out these individuals so that they can answer for their crimes, Frantz Elbé considers it appropriate to notify all components of society that a set of non-exclusive measures has been adopted in order to deal with the situation :

"From now on, any police vehicle operating on public roads must be provided with an identical license plate at the front and at the rear, marked with the plate numbers and the inscription "police" on the sides of the vehicle and the emblem of the PNH on the hood.

With the exception of sanitary masks, the wearing of balaclavas, handkerchiefs and any other accessories altering the uniform of the police or the specialized unit on duty, is strictly prohibited during routine checks on the public highway.

The National Police relies on the collaboration of all layers of society and invites anyone witnessing a violation of these provisions to call the number (509) 3838-1111, in order to help him in the accomplishment of his mission and put the bandits out of harm's way.
