Haiti - Women's U-20 World Cup qualifier : Our Grenadières qualified for the 1/4 finals (Video)
Saturday March 5, 2022, as part of the qualifiers for the U-20 Women's World Cup to be held in August 2022 in Costa Rica (August 10 to 28), our Grenadières faced the Golden Jaguars of Guyana on the lawn of the Pan American Stadium in San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic.

Starting 11 Haiti :
Haiti coach Fiorda Charles proposed a 4-3-3 formation with Madelina Fleuriot in goal (#1); Meghane St-Cyr (#5), Maudeline Moryl (#13), Gaelle Dumas (#14) and Jenny Flore Desmarattes (#4) in the defensive line; Mirlene Dorce (#19), Dayana Pierre Louis (#10) and Estericove Joseph (#2) in the middle and Florsie Joseph (#9) Mariline Guerrier (#16) and Rose-Alya Marcellus (#7) in attack.

Guyana starting 11 :
Meanwhile, Paul Deabreu's side took the field with a 5-4-1 pattern with Anessa O Brien (#18) in goal; Valentina Khan (#20), Shamya Daniels (#5), Jenea Knight (#8), Jessica Myers (#2) and Savannah Mordesir-Singh (#4) defending; Audrey Narine (#6), Leela Khedoo (#10), Samantha Banfield (#7) and Dylana Makarowski (#15) at half court and Inari Moore (#16) up front.

Our Grenadières were very determined from the outset but it was Inari Moore who opened the scoring at 37' for the golden jaguars of Guyana [0-1].

Despite the efforts of our brave Grenadières they did not manage in the first period to thwart the vigilance of Anessa O Brien, the goalkeeper of Guyana.

Back from the locker room with the score still [0-1] in favor of Guyana, Fiorda Charles at 46' brought out Mariline Guerrer to replace her with Valentina Ornis.

Maudeline Moryl finally equalizes at 58' [1-1].

Fiorda Charles makes a second substitution at 73' and brings in Rose-Bertude Rosainvil in place of Méghane Saint-Cyr.

Valentina Ornis scored the winning goal for Haiti at 88' [2-1], goal initially refused by the Mexican referee Priscila Perez central for "advanced position" before being finally validated after consultation with the "Video Assistant Referee" (VAR)

It is on this score that Haiti qualified not without difficulty for the 1/4 final, a snatch victory in a match without great brilliance.

Before being able to obtain their ticket for the World Cup, our Grenadières will first have to win the quarter-final victory against the United States on Tuesday March 8, 2022 on the lawn of the Panamericano Stadium in San Cristobal, in the Dominican Republic at 4:00 a.m. (local time), 3:00 p.m. Haiti time at

According to the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), Estericove Joseph and Valentina Ornis were admitted to the Juan Pablo Pina hospital after the match. However, Doctor Peterson Gabriel, doctor of the Grenadières informs that the condition of the two players is stable but that they will be put to complete rest this Sunday without further details.

Raymonde Rival, the Minister of Youth and Sports applauds "this laborious victory" of the U-20 women's national team which is taking a new step towards the FIFA World Cup Costa Rica 2022 by beating Guyana 2-1 in 1/8 of final. Minister Rival "congratulates the young Grenadières who made the Haitian people proud by qualifying for the quarter-finals. Grenadye alaso."
